How to make it

  • There are many proportions of the above ingredients in making the egg cream which differ slightly-
  • I place the milk and syrup in a screw top or shaker jar
  • Then I add the seltzer water
  • Shake vigorously
  • Pour into serving glass
  • Drink immediately as selzer water fizzles out in a few minutes

    I Have also tried using Black Cherry flavored seltzer and it has a similar flavor. using regular chocolate gives it a lighter cherry kick, but very good.
    I also do not shake, but rather pour the seltzer slowly into the chocolate milk stirring the entire time. the fizz lasts longer and there is less potential for a mess.

    midge? were you ever at the late'' sammy's roumanian '' 154 delancy in manhattan...they give you quart of milk and bottlle of mrs fox's , and full bottle of seltzer?it was a jewish dive,no 2 chairs matched.rude waiters.chopped chicken livers like my grand mother made, with the grieven! brian

    you reminded me i havent had an egg cream in 4 or 5 months...just made myself one..i used my own choc syrup,reduced godiva choc liquer, i keep on hand....it was great ...thanks
