Ethiopian Red Lentil Dish

- 1 cup dried red lentils ( soak at least an hour and rinse and drain ) shopping list
- 1 onion, chopped shopping list
- 1-3 cloves garlic, minced shopping list
- 1 small can tomato paste ( I used ketsup instead ) shopping list
- 2 cups vegetable broth or water shopping list
- 1 Tb paprika shopping list
- 1 ts ground ginger shopping list
- 1 ts turmeric shopping list
- 1 ts garam masala shopping list
- 1 Tb berbere - see separate recipe I posted shopping list
- sea salt to taste shopping list
- ground black pepper to taste shopping list
- oil for frying shopping list
How to make it
- Soak lentils for at least an hour in water
- Drain and rinse and set aside
- Saute onions and garlic in oil until golden
- Add broth or water
- Add spices and tomato paste
- When gently boiling, add lentils
- Turn down heat and cover and simmer until lentils are tender and it's a thick stew consistency
- Nice with rice and injera bread
