Apricot Torte

- a jelly roll pan sized roughly 15.12 x 10.62 x 1.13 in shopping list
- 3 sticks butter shopping list
- 4 egg yolks shopping list
- 1/4 cup milk shopping list
- 1/4 c warm water shopping list
- 4 cups flour shopping list
- 1 pkg. dry yeast shopping list
- 2 jars apricot jelly/preserves 10 oz. jars give or take shopping list
- 3/4 lb ground nuts(traditionally walnuts though others could be used) shopping list
- 3 tsp cinnamon shopping list
- 1 cup sugar shopping list
- Icing shopping list
- 1/2 cup butter shopping list
- 1/2 cup crisco shopping list
- 1/2 cup hot milk shopping list
- 1 cup sugar shopping list
- 1 egg white shopping list
- 1 tbs vanilla extract or almond extract shopping list
How to make it
Torte
- Combine nuts, sugar cinnamon, set aside 1/2c of this.
- combine warm water, yeast set aside
- combine flour and butter same as you would a pie crust
- add slightly beaten egg yolks, milk and yeast to flour/butter mix, blend until smooth and pulling away from bowl.
- place dough on a lightly floured board knead gently and then divide into 3 parts.
- roll out 1 part between 2 sheets of waxed paper like you would pie dough, when to size remove one sheet then place it back and flip and remove second sheet then replace, fold over rolling pin with both sheets and then remove outer sheet then cover bottom of a lightly greased cookie sheet.
- layer nut mixture onto dough then lightly sprinkle the nut layer with water(or better yet mist with a spray bottle until the surface is lightly darkened.
- roll out 2nd part and place overtop nut mixture in pan.
- cover 2nd layer with 1 jar apricot
- roll out 3rd layer and place overtop previous layer
- cover 3rd layer with 2nd jar apricot
- prick entire pan with fork
- bake at 350 fro 30 minutes
- let cool, then ice and sprinkle remaining nut mixture overtop
Icing
- beat egg white to med peaks
- cream together crisco butter sugar, until sugar crystals dissolve completely
- combine egg white with sugar mixture and mix well
- combine hot milk and vanilla extract
- slowly mix milk into icing a little at a time.
