Biscuits

- 2 Cups Flour shopping list
- 1 TBL baking powder shopping list
- 1 tsp Salt shopping list
- 2 TBL White Sugar shopping list
- 1/3 Cup shortening (~6 TBL) or butter shopping list
- 1 Cup butter milk (or 1 cup Milk + 1 TBL Vinegar) shopping list
How to make it
- Pre-heat oven to 425 deg F
- Sift together Flour, Baking Powder, Salt and Sugar
- Cut in Shortening (or butter)
- Stir in Buttermilk until a dough is formed
- Turn out dough onto floured surface and kneed
- Using your hands (NOT a rolling pin) spread dough out. Want to have dough about 1/2 inch thick.
- Using a cooking cutter cut shapes.
- Put biscuits on cookie sheet and bake. 13-15 minutes or until golden brown.
- Tips:
- * For tall, fluffy biscuits, with soft sides, place shapes on pan with sides touching.
- * For brown crispy biscuits, space sides approx. 1 inch apart.
- * The dry ingredients, when mixed together (everything minus the buttermilk), is a clone for store bought biscuit/pancake mixes.

I made these twice sometime during October 2015. The first time they didn't rise at all. So I patted them out to about an inch second time. Much better! Rose to normal biscuit height. I didn't use any sugar in these, not a believer in sugar in my bis...more
