Tandy Kakes Recipe

Tandy Kakes Recipe
Unless you live on the east coast, or have been here to visit, you've been missing out on Tandy Kakes! They are made in Philly and they do not ship anywhere that isn't within a 1 day drive. A moist yellow cake, with peanut butter and chocolate. YUM!

  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 2 cups sugar
  • 2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 2 cups flour
  • 1 cup milk
  • 2 teaspoons melted butter
  • 1-8 ounce milk chocolate bar (I recommend using a Hershey's milk chocolate bar)
  • 1 cup creamy peanut butter (use one that is a bit on the "sweet"side)

Directions
  1. Use a baking sheet or cookie sheet that has sides.
  2. Lightly grease or spray with non-stick cooking spray.
  3. Set aside.
  4. In a bowl, mix eggs, vanilla and salt.
  5. Add sugar.
  6. In a bowl, sift flour and baking poweder together.
  7. Add flour mixture alternated with milk to egg mixture.
  8. Add butter.
  9. Spread batter onto the cookie sheet.
  10. Bake at 350 degrees for 30-35 minutes.
  11. Be VERY careful not to OVER BAKE!
  12. This layer should have a moist cake-texture.
  13. Remove from oven and let cool for a few minutes.
  14. Spread with peanut butter while cake is still warm.
  15. Continue cooling on a wire rack, and then refrigerate for 1 hour.
  16. Melt chocolate in a double boiler.
  17. Spread melted chocolate over peanut butter.
  18. Refrigerate again to cool and set chocolate.
  19. Cut into 2-inch to 2 1/2-inch squares.
  20. Best if stored in the refrigerator.
  21. **Tandy Kakes are actually round and packaged 2 per package. They are a must have at least once in life :) **

Sometimes if the chocolate gets tempermental. I add butter to it or actually a spoonful of peanut butter and melt it with the chocolate. Spreads easier.

If anyone has not tried this they need too! You can eat the entire tray! Don't forget the cold glass of milk!
