How to make it

  • Pre-heat oven to 350 degrees.
  • Cut (or rip) bread into small pieces, distribute between 4 half-cup ramekins.
  • Beat egg and yolk in a medium bowl until slightly thickened.
  • Combine milk, cream and brown sugar in a saucepan, heat over medium low heat until bubbles rise around the edges, stirring occasionally.
  • Slowly drizzle milk into eggs while stirring continuously.
  • Pour custard over bread in ramekins.
  • Place ramekins in baking dish, add enough boiling water to come halfway up the cups.
  • Bake in the oven for approximately 40 minutes until the custard is set.
