How to make it

  • Beat sugar, margarine and shortening together with an electric mixer at medium speed.
  • Add one egg at a time, beating after each egg, until well blended. Should be a pale yellow.
  • In a separate bowl, sift together flour, cream of tartar, soda and salt.
  • gradually add to sugar mixture, stirring after each addition, until well blended.
  • Refrigerate dough for about 15 minutes, so it's easier to handle.
  • Preheat oven to 400 degrees.
  • Mix together 1/4 cup sugar and cinnamon in shallow dish.
  • Form dough into tablespoon balls and roll in cinnamon/sugar mixture.
  • Place on ungreased cookie sheet and bake for 8-11 minutes, until edges are a nice golden brown.
  • Cool completely on rack.
  • Makes about 2 dozen, depending on size of cookie you prefer.
