How to make it

  • Add salt to egg whites and beat until stiff but not dry
  • Add sugar, 1 tablespoon at a time, beating until granules are dissolved
  • Add vanilla and coconut, mixing lightly
  • Drop by teaspoonfuls onto ungreased brown paper on cookie sheets
  • Bake in preheated 350F oven for about 20 minutes
  • Slip paper onto wet table or board
  • Let stand for 1 minute
  • Loosen the "smooches" with a spatula; remove to wire racks
  • Top each with a cherry half
  • makes 4 dozen

    I made them before with 1/2 c Splenda and 1/2 c superfine (fruit) sugar. Works well that way for me!

    I wonder if Splenda would work? This may be a perfect "sweet" for my hubby if so! Gonna try it this week, maybe today!
