This is a cake that was served during the Depression years.

Ingredients
  • 1 C. Raisins
  • 2 C. Water
  • 1 C. Sugar
  • 2 heaping T. shortening
  • 1 t. Cinnamon
  • 1 t. nutmeg
  • 1 t. baking powder
  • 1 t. baking soda
  • 2 C. sifted flour
  • 1 C. nutmeats

Directions
  1. Cook raisins in water until 1 cup of water remains. Add soda to water, set aside. Combine flour and sugar, add shortening, spices, nutmeats and raisins including water. Bake at ~350 until cake shrinks from sides of pan.
