Ingredients
  • ▪ 2 CUPS LARD
  • ▪ 3 TSPS. BAKING POWDER
  • ▪ 2 TSPS. ANISE SEEDS, CRUSHED
  • ▪ 1 TSP. SALT
  • ▪ 6 CUPS FLOUR
  • ▪ 2 EGGS
  • ▪ ½ CUP ORANGE JUICE
  • ▪ 1 ½ CUPS SUGAR

Directions
  1. SEPARATE EGG YOLKS FROM EGG WHITES. BEAT EGG WHITES WITH LARD AND SUGAR. STIR IN YOLKS AND MIX. SIFT DRY INGREDIENTS TOGETHER AND MIX WITH THE LARD/EGG/SUGAR MIXTURE. ADD ORANGE JUICE.
  2. FORM INTO THREE BALLS OF DOUGH. ROLL EACH INTO 1/4" SHEETS ON A FLOURED SURFACE. CUT INTO SHAPES. BAKE AT 350 DEG. FOR 8 TO 10 MINS. ROLL THE WARM COOKIES IN A SUGAR AND CINNAMON MIXTURE.

I know what you mean about Lard, I need to buy some for this recipe... the old fashioned way!!


That's so true, Lard makes things much more tender.


Instead of oj, i use either peach or blackberry flavored brandy.

Alterations


You could also use some brandy or rum flavoring along with the orange juice. That is the best way for teetotalers. LOL
