Italian Polish Sausage Bake Recipe
The combo of bell peppers, onion , mushrooms and sausage, along with the tomato sauce and chicken broth realy enhance the flavor of this dish. Meatballs and spagehtti noodles of any type make this a wholesome and flavorable dish.

Ingredients
  • 1 to two Pkgs. mild sweet italian sausage, 10 links minimum.
  • 4 bell peppers, 1 red, 1 yellow, 1 orange, 1 green, If available, or just red, yellow and green.
  • 2medium to large onions, white preferred or vidalia.
  • 1 Quart white button mushrooms sliced.
  • 2 -15 ounce cans tomato sauce.
  • 1 4 0z. can tomato paste.
  • 1 -12 ounce can chicken broth.
  • 2TBSPs. Oregano.
  • Salt and pepper to taste.
  • Meatballs-My concoction.
  • 1/2 LB. ground chuck.1/2 LB ground veal, 1/2 LB ground PORK.
  • 2eggs.
  • 1-1/2 cups italian seasoned breadcrumbs.
  • 1 PKG liptons dried onion soup mix.
  • dash of milk.(about 1 cup) Mix all ingredents for meatball recipe together and shape into nice sized meatballs.
  • Simmer into sauce along with other ingredients.
  • When this is all cooked, add your favorite pasta and enjoy.!

Directions
  1. Unpackage, rinse and cut links into 1&1/2 inch pieces.
  2. In a skillet, simmer pieces until pink is gone and browned on medium low heat. let sit.
  3. Decore bell peppers of stem, cut in half, deseed, and rinse under cold water.
  4. Slice peppers into strips the length of pepper, about a 1/4 inch wide.
  5. Peel and slice onions, mushrooms in half and julienne.
  6. Saute peppers, onions and mushrooms (about 5 to 8 mins. on medium heat) and add all and sausage back into roasting pan.
  7. Place all of the remaining ingredients into the roasting pan, except the Meatballs and stir lightly.
  8. In a seperate pan follow recipe for meatball mixture.
  9. Meatballs-Combine ground chuck veal and pork , 1 egg, 11/2 cup italian seasoning bread crumbs, and 1 pkg. onion soup mix, plus dash of milk to mix and form meatballs.
  10. Use same skillet as used to brown sausage.
  11. Brown and simmer meatballs and add to pot.
  12. Bake @ 350 for 1-1&1/2 hours.
  13. Cook and strain your favorite pasta noodle and pour this combo over the top or eat alone!

This sounds like something I would like to try.


Directions are somewhat confusing. Are the peppers, onions, and mushrooms sauteed prior to being placed in roaster, because the directions say to place them into the roaster, then saute them??? Also, I ingredients list just says tomato paste, not how much. Could someone clear this up for me. Thank you, thank you, thank you.
