How to make it

  • Preheat oven to 350 degrees
  • Peel turnip, cut up into pieces, and boil turnip until tender
  • Mash turnip (and carrots/apples if you are using)
  • Mix in egg yolks, nutmeg, salt, pepper, brown sugar
  • Beat egg whites in separate dish until soft peaks form
  • Mix in the egg whites - this is what makes the turnip lighter than your normal turnip dishes (as well as the carrots and/or apples if that's what you've chosen to add)
  • Smooth turnip mixture evenly over bottom of greased casserole dish
  • Melt butter and add breadcrumbs, and sprinkle mixture over top
  • Bake for 35 to 40 minutes

    This sounds wonderful! We love turnips. We have them Thanksgiving and Christmas, and many times in-between! :)
