I made the spanish rice recipe and it came out like the real thing. I used Bosmoti rice and you can buy soup noodles they are not as dense as spagetti. Brown the rice and soup noodles and add water 2 cups to every cup of rice. I mix chicken base soup into the water. Then add a can or two of stewed tomatoes. I make alot so I am usually doubling everything. Bring to a boil and cover and simmer on low until the rice is tender. I brown some onion, garlic powder, lots of paprika, basil, minced onion with the noodles and rice. I brown the rice, noodles and spices in about 1 tbls of oil and about half cup butter or margarine..sorry i dont measure things..lool..this comes out like the real thing. family loved it..

Okay, Here's what I ended up doing. I took 2 or 3 T veg. oil and made like I was making the rice-a-roni from the box. I sauteed the rice and the noodles till they started to brown, then I added one small diced onion, and 1 T prepared, minced garlic. When the onions were clear I added the 3 1/2 C water, the bullion, and the parsley. Brought it to a boil, ended up adding some minced frozen carrots (about 1/2 C)instead of frozen corn, returned it to boil, covered it, reduced it to a simmer and cooked for 30 min. I did had about 1/2 C water part way through. It turns out a little starchier than your commercial rice-a-roni, but I didn't have any leftovers so I guess my kids didn't mind.
