Ingredients
  • --------- For 4 dozen cookies--------
  • 1 cup butter or margarine softend
  • 1/2 cup powdered sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla
  • 2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 3/4 cup finely chopped nuts
  • Powdered sugar
  • Colored sugar (optional)

Directions
  1. Preheat oven to 400.F
  2. Mix thoroughly butter, 1/2 cup powdered sugar and the vanilla.
  3. Work in flour, salt and nuts until dough holds together.
  4. Shape dough into 1-inch balls. Place on ungreased baking sheet.
  5. Bake 10 to 12 minutes or until set but not brown. While warm, roll in powdered sugar. Cool.
  6. Or roll in colored sugar before baking.

I have made these many times and they are just lovely. Sometimes, depending on the time of year and my mood, I substitute pure almond or peppermint extract for vanilla. Thank you for sharing this recipe.
