How to make it

  • Preheat oven to 375.
  • Beat shortening and brown sugar using electric mixer for 5 minutes.
  • Add milk, vanilla and salt then beat until light.
  • Add flour and oats to shortening mixture and combine.
  • Set aside 1 cup of the crumbs for topping.
  • Pat remaining crumb mixture into bottom of rectangular baking pan.
  • Spread preserves over crumb crust to within 1/2" of edge of pan.
  • Sprinkle reserved crumb mixture over preserves.
  • Bake at 375 for 25 minutes.
  • Cool completely on wire rack then cut into bars.

    Legendary ate it and said...
    I loved this; made them first time with apricot preserves and they ewere yummy. Second time I used homemade fig jam, and they were like a sort of oaty- fig newton. Thanks!
