How to make it

  • Preheat oven to 350
  • Combine almond butter and brown sugar
  • Add eggs and almond extract and mix untill well combined
  • In another bowl combine the whole wheat flour, cocoa, baking powder, and salt
  • Add dry ingredients to the wet and fold untill just combined, avoid over stirring
  • Stir in the coconut and chocolate peices and almond peices
  • Pour into a greased square pan and bake 30 minutes

    This is excellent, my son is allergic to peanut butter so we always get our almond butter freshly ground, we are lucky that our grocery store has a lot of health foods.

    I guess you could use any nut butter instead if the almond butter, although, they are supposed to be almond brownies, hence the almond extract and such. I guess you could use peanut butter, but if you can try to get natural peanubt butter, with nothing added just ground peanuts. Any you can just use packages coconut, unsweetened though. Also for some added luxury you could make an icing out of icing sugar cocoa powder and a drop of water and just spread it ontop. yummmm I made these this afternoon and my grandpa had one for desert and he wont shut up about how amazing they were.

    Oh my, this is something I want to make! A few questions though--- any suggestion for a substitute for almond butter? We don't have it here. Did you mean freshly grated coconut or dessicated coconut in the recipe?
