How to make it

  • Boil together for 1 minute and set aside. In a large bowl beat:
  • 1 egg
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla
  • 1/2 teaspoon cream of tartar
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • Add to syrup mixture then divide equally in 3 unbaked pie shells. Top with crumb mixture made of:
  • 2 cups pastry flour
  • 1/2 cup lard
  • 1/2 teaspoon soda
  • 1 cup brown sugar
  • 1 teaspoon cream of tartar
  • Bake for 45 minutes in 350 oven.
