Rosemarys Cornbread Recipe
This recipe comes from my Step -Grandmother, who lived in Louisiana all her life. She was an amazing cook.

Ingredients
  • 1 cup buttermilk
  • 1/4 teaspoon soda
  • 1 egg
  • 1/4 cup flour
  • 1 tablespoon sugar
  • 1/4 cup oil
  • 3/4 cup stone ground white corn meal (yellow cornmeal is fine)
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 4 tablespoons oil for skillet

Directions
  1. Pre-heat oven 475 to 500 degrees.
  2. In a medium bowl, mix all ingredients. Don't overmix. Should be slightly lumpy.
  3. Meanwhile, pour 4 tablespoons of oil into a cast iron skillet.
  4. Place cast iron skillet into pre-heated oven.
  5. Once the skillet is hot, remove from oven and pour mixed ingredients into hot cast iron skillet.
  6. Bake for 15 to 20 mns.

This recipe is the way I know it from my southern experiences! Thank you for sharing it with all of us ;-) There is one problem though... Once you pour the ingredients into the cast iron skillet, then what??? I would imagine you place it back in the oven and bake it for a period of time, but for how long??? It wouldn't be cooked by just placing the ingredients in the hot skillet. Please let me know, I am curious ;-)
