Apple Crisp Without The Oatmeal

- 6 apples, peeled, cored and sliced shopping list
- Note: For something a little different use 4 apples and 2 firm pears. shopping list
- 2 Tbsp. lemon juice shopping list
- 1/4 tsp. lemon zest, grated* shopping list
- 2 Tbsp. water or 2 Tbsp. apple juice shopping list
- 3/4 cup brown sugar, packed shopping list
- 1-1/4 tsp. cinnamon shopping list
- 1/4 tsp. nutmeg shopping list
- 2 Tbsp. cornstarch shopping list
- 1 cup flour shopping list
- 1 cup sugar shopping list
- 1/2 tsp. salt shopping list
- 1/4 cup butter shopping list
- Note: I have sometimes added a handful of dried cherries or cranberries. This really kicks up the traditional "apple Crisp." shopping list
How to make it
- In a mixing bowl, mix apples, juice, zest and water.
- Pour into a lightly greased baking dish.
- In small bowl, mix brown sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg
- and cornstarch and sprinkle over apples.
- In mixing bowl sift together flour, sugar and salt.
- Cut butter into mixture until it is of cornmeal-like consistency.
- Sprinkle over apples.
- Bake at 400 degrees until done, about 45 minutes.
- Serves 8-10
- *Zest is the coloured part of citrus peel with none of
- the white membrane, which is bitter.
