How to make it

  • Grate the head of the cabbage.
  • Put half of the cabbage into a large bowl
  • Grate the green pepper and onion
  • Put a layer of green pepper and onion on top of cabbage.
  • Sprinkle with 1/2 cup sugar
  • Repeat layers of grated cabbage, green pepper and onion
  • Sprinkle with remaining sugar
  • In a small sauce pan bring to a boil
  • the salt and celery seed, salad oil and vinegar.
  • Pour the boiling mixture over the cabbage salad.
  • DO NOT STIR
  • Refrigerate for 24 hours
  • Stir when ready to serve
  • Tastes better made 2 to 3 days ahead of time.
