- 3 tbsp olive oil shopping list
- 2 poungs ground beef shopping list
- 1 large onion, chopped shopping list
- 1 tbsp tomato paste mixed with 1/2 cup water shopping list
- 1 pound elbow macaronik, cooked according to directions and drained shopping list
- 1 pound grated cheese shopping list
- For topping: shopping list
- 1/2 cup butter, melted shopping list
- 7 tbsp flour shopping list
- 1 1/2 quarts milk, heated to lukewarm shopping list
- 10 eggs, separated shopping list
How to make it
- Heat oil in a large skillet. add meat and onion and cook until meat is brown. add tomato paste, cover and simmer for 30 minutes. If any liquid remains, cook meat uncovered until liquid has evaporated.
- Spread half the cooked macaroni in an 12 x 18 inch baking dish and cover wit all the meat mixture. Sprinkle top with 3/4 of the cheese. For a layer with the mararoni.
- Meahwhile, to make sauce, melt butter in a large saucepan. Add flour and mix with a whisk for several minutes. Gradually add milk while stirring; simmer until sauce thicken, stirring frequently.
- Separate eggs. Beat whites in a bowl until they pile softly. Beat yolks in another bowl. Fold yolks and whites together, then fold in sauce. Spoon over meet and macarni. Sprinkle with remaining cheese.
- Bake at 325 degrees for 45 minutes or until golden borwn. Cool slightly before serving.
