Melissa Clarks Spiced Baked Apples with Maple Caramel Sauce

- 4 apples (I used empire) shopping list
- dab butter shopping list
- splash maple syup shopping list
- brown sugar shopping list
- chopped pecans shopping list
- baking raisins shopping list
- white wine shopping list
- whole cloves and cardomom shopping list
- or powdered 1/8 tsp of each shopping list
How to make it
- peel off a strip of skin around the stem of the apple.
- using a small paring knife, or corer, core the apples,
- slit six times apiece,
- put them in a buttered cake pan.
- put a dab of butter and a splash of maple syrup into each apple cavity.
- mix together some brown sugar chopped pecans, and baking raisins,
- divide this mixture between the apples.
- pour maple syrup into a bowl,
- add white wine, a cinnamon stick, a piece of ginger and some ground cardamom and cloves
- mix it all together and pour this into the pan around the apples.
- Place pan in pre-heated 325 oven.
- Every ten minutes or so, baste the apples with the liquid (alternately using a brush or a spoon) until the apples are tender.
