- Crust: shopping list
- 2 c farina ( cream of wheat) shopping list
- 1 c semolina ( available at middle eastern stores, I buy mine at Winco foods) shopping list
- 1/2 c of sugar shopping list
- 1 c melted, cooled unsalted butter shopping list
- 2 tsp dry yeast shopping list
- 2 Tbs rose -water ( also available at middle eastern stores) shopping list
- 2 Tbs pure vanilla , not the immitation stuff. shopping list
- Filling: shopping list
- 3 c of water shopping list
- 1 can sweetened condensed milk shopping list
- 3/4 c flour shopping list
- 2 Tbs rose-water shopping list
How to make it
- in a mixing bowl, combine all the ingredients listed for making the crust together. using your best tools ( your clean hands) mix the ingredients up until well incorporated
- cover your dough with plastic wrap,and allow it to rest for 1/2 to 1 hour on your kitchen counter top
- in the meanwhile , start preparing your cream filling:
- combine all the filling ingredients and whisk gently and constantly over medium heat (do not walk away from , it will lump up ), until it starts to thicken,cook for another 4-5 minutes, remove from heat and let it cool before using it.
- divide your dough in half, into two balls, press the first half down into a greased 9" pie dish
- pour your cream filling over the crust.
- Roll the rest of your dough out between 2 sheets of waxed paper. remove the top paper and carefully turn the dough over the cream, making sure to cover the entire top of your pie dish. cut excess edges off using a knife, tuck the edges of the crust in with the tips of your fingers to keep the cream from burning in the cooking process
- bake in a preheated oven at 375 degrees for 35-45 min, or until the top is golden brown.
- remove from the oven , let cool before cutting into squares..
- Serve with black coffee..
