My mother and I have been making these brownies for as long as I can remember. They always get rave reviews, and they always turn out great! The most important part is the icing, so make sure it's done right!

  • 1 cup margarine (2 sticks)
  • 2 cups sugar
  • 1 cup cocoa
  • 4 eggs
  • 1 tsp vanilla
  • 1 1/3 cup flour
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • ---------
  • ICING
  • ---------
  • 1/4 cup MELTED margarine
  • 1/4 cup milk
  • 1/4 cup cocoa
  • 1 tsp vanilla
  • 2 cups icing sugar

Directions
  1. * preheat oven to 350 degrees. Grease a 9 x 13" pan. I try to use metal pans because it makes the brownies taste a little more buttery.
  2. 1. Melt margarine in a large pot
  3. 2. add sugar and cocoa, and mix with spoon until blended. (no beaters required)
  4. 3. add eggs and vanilla, stir mixture until uniform.
  5. 4. combine flour, salt and baking powder in a small bowl, and mix.
  6. 5. Add four mixture to wet mixture.
  7. 6. Pour mixture into pan and bake for 28 minutes.
  8. 7. remove from oven, let sit for 5 minutes or so, and IMMEDIATELY pour icing over top. It will be runny and warm, but once it cools and sets, these are AMAZING!
  9. ICING--> simply mix together with a whisk. No beater/mixer required.

Alterations


I omitted the baking powder and salt and they were so YUMMY!!! I think I might have eaten the entire batch by myself!! Thanks for sharing.
