How to make it

  • Combine dry ingredients. Work in shortening and add milk gradually. Knead and pinch off desired amount and place in greased and heated dutch oven. Bake 15-20 minutes at 325 degrees F.

    I tried these today and they weren't done at 20 minutes. I upped the temperature to 350F and cooked them for 20 minutes more. They still were a bit doughy inside. Was I suppose to put the lid on? They tasted good though. Added a couple of pictures. More here
