How to make it

  • wash peas in a sieve until water runs clear
  • place in a medium pot with water and tumeric and bring to a boil
  • lower heat as low as you can to retain a very slow simmer for 1 hour
  • mash in the pot with a potato masher or use a immursion blender, to a smooth concistency
  • add salt to taste and keep warm
  • in a small skillet, heat oil over medium heat, add cumin and crushed pepper, cook for 3 minutes, careful not to burn
  • stir oil and spice mix into soup and serve

    Love split pea soup! I like the addition of cumin and tumeric. I have some ham, and this may be just what I will make! :)
