Old Time Bread Pudding Recipe
This recipe is from The Woman's Day Encyclopedia, circa 1968. This is the recipe I go back to time and again when I want a really comforting dessert.

Ingredients
  • 6 slices of bread, buttered generously with about ¼ C butter
  • 1 C firmly packed dark brown sugar
  • ½ tsp each of allspice and cinnamon
  • ¼ tsp salt
  • 2 eggs
  • 2 ½ C milk, scalded
  • Stir in about a 1/2 cup rehydrated raisins if you like as well.

Directions
  1. Dice buttered bread into a 2 qt baking dish
  2. Stir in the optional raisins
  3. Sprinkle with sugar/spice mixture
  4. Beat salt and eggs slightly, gradually beat in milk and pour evenly over bread
  5. Bake at 325 until set, about 30 minutes

We just love bread pudding! Great comfort food! I first learned to make it when I was 5 years old! This is a great recipe, especially with that brown sugar! :)


I can't believe I raised my family without making bread pudding. It was something my Grandma used to make, yumm. I think I will give it a try this week.
