Spirited Spiced Fruit Compote

- 2 cinnamon sticks broken into two inch pieces shopping list
- 12 whole cloves shopping list
- 3 quarter sized slices of fresh peeled ginger shopping list
- 1 1/3 cups of orange juice shopping list
- 1/3 cup of packed light brown sugar shopping list
- 2/3 cup of raisins shopping list
- pinch of salt shopping list
- several grinds of fresh nutmeg shopping list
- 1/3 cup of brandy or Cointreau or use 1/4 cup of each (my fav) shopping list
- 1 can of apricot halves drained shopping list
- 1 can of sliced pears, drained shopping list
- 1 can of sliced peaches, drained shopping list
- 1 can of pitted dark sweet cherries, drained shopping list
How to make it
- Cut an 8 inch square double thickness of cheesecloth.
- Put cinnamon sticks, cloves and ginger slices in the middle and bundle it into a bag and tie up with kitchen twine.
- In a large sauce pan, combine the orange juice, raisins, brown sugar.
- Add the spice bag, salt and nutmeg.
- Bring to a boil.
- Reduce heat and simmer for 10 minutes.
- Add fruit and brandy/Cointreau and simmer for less than five minutes, just enough to heat the fruit thoroughly..
- Discard spice bag and serve fruit warm.

- *in a dish topped with whipped cream and granola or crushed ginger snaps as a dessert*
