How to make it

  • FILLING:
  • Prepare instant rice as directed on box
  • In a med/large fry pan, brown the meat on medium heat
  • Drain grease
  • Add chopped potatoes, onion, garlic, parsley and 1/2 c dill to the meat let it sit on medium heat, stir often.
  • Stir the meat filling and rice together.
  • Stir the rest of the 1/2 c. dill to the mixture.
  • CRUST:
  • Preheat oven to 375 Degrees.
  • Mix 2 c. of flour and butter into a large bowl.
  • Combine together until softly mixed.
  • Add water to bowl
  • Mix together til it looks more dough like.
  • Roll into a ball
  • On a clean flat surface spread a 1/2 c of flour.
  • Roll out dough onto completely flat
  • With a wide cup, cut crust into many circles (I usually get 24 circles)
  • place each circle onto a baking sheet
  • In each dough circle place some of the filling in the center.
  • Fold and pinch each circle over the filling.
  • Bake for 20min.

    MY finn buddies call them pasties too. These sound pretty good. I make mine w/ carrot & rutabga.
    Rice is a different touch.I'll book mark this, thanks

    My Finnish cousins called these Pasties and not the kind you stick to yourself. ;-)

    I think this is great, thanks so much. I didn't know that potatoes came in cans. I'm going to just chop my own up. The lamb sounds so good too.
