I had never tasted a Philly Cheese steak sandwich until about 2 years ago. I couldn't believe how amazingly delicious they are. This is my version that I'm passing along. I hope you like it.

Ingredients
  • 1-1/2 cups mayonnaise
  • *I like to mix 2/3's mayonnaise and 1/3 sour cream
  • 3-4 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1-1/2 Tablespoons olive oil
  • 1-1/2 pounds beef round steak, cut into thin strips
  • *If I have leftover roast beef, I will use it in this sandwich.
  • 2 bell peppers, 1 red and 1 green cut into 1/4 inch strips
  • 2 medium - large onions, cut into thick half moon slices
  • salt and pepper to taste
  • *Occasionally I have added sauteed sliced mushrooms but it's up to you.
  • 4 hoagie rolls, split lengthwise and lightly toasted
  • 1 (8 ounce) package shredded mozzarella cheese
  • *Some people prefer shredded cheddar cheese or warmed Cheez Whiz
  • 1 teaspoon dried oregano
  • 3 Tbsps. chopped fresh parsley for garnish
  • *If you like sauerkraut, that's a great addition to this popular sandwich.

Directions
  1. In a small bowl, combine mayonnaise and minced garlic.
  2. Cover, and refrigerate.
  3. Preheat oven to 500 degrees F (260 degrees C).
  4. Heat oil in a large skillet over medium heat.
  5. Saute beef until lightly browned.
  6. Stir in green pepper and onion, and season with salt and pepper. Saute until vegetables are tender, and remove from heat.
  7. Spread each bun generously with garlic mayonnaise.
  8. *One of my secret ingredients is to squirt a little Zesty Italian Salad dressing along the bun before spreading the garlic mayonnaise. Or you can blend it into the garlic mayo mixture. Either way it's a hit.
  9. Divide beef mixture into the buns.
  10. Top with shredded cheese, and sprinkle with oregano.
  11. Place sandwiches on a baking pan.
  12. Heat sandwiches in preheated oven, until cheese is melted or slightly browned.
  13. *I like to wrap the sandwiches in foil or parchment paper and heat them in the oven for about 10 minutes.
  14. Makes approximately 4 sandwiches
