Roast Honey Ginger Pears Recipe

Roast Honey Ginger Pears Recipe
My adaptation of a traditional Chinese dessert. Perfect during winter as a light but savory sweet. Best when served piping hot right from the oven. Incredible simple treat, but really very good. Delicate dish with surprising depth of flavors.

Ingredients
  • 4 large pears, preferably a medium-sharp variety
  • 6 Tbs orange-blossom or wild clover honey
  • 3 tsp grated fresh ginger root, pulverized or processed very fine
  • 1/3 C water

Directions
  1. Preheat oven to 350 F
  2. In the same way you would core an apple, take the centers out of the pears.
  3. Skin the pears and place them in a 9x12 glass cooking dish
  4. Combine the honey, ginger and water in a small dish.
  5. Fill each pear halfway with the ginger sauce, then brush some sauce thouroughly over the outside of the pears to glaze them. Reserve a bit for a second coating later.
  6. Bake at 350 F for 10-12 minutes, until pears have slightly softened.
  7. Remove pears from oven, place a second coat of glaze.
  8. Return tray to oven and broil on high for 2-3 minutes, until glaze has caramelized to desired texture.
  9. Remove, serve immediately.
