Ingredients
  • 2 cups flour
  • 2 tsp. baking powder
  • 1 tsp. salt
  • 1/2 tsp. cinnamon
  • 1/4 tsp. grated nutmeg
  • 1/2 cup butter
  • 1 1/4 cups sugar
  • 2 eggs
  • 2 granny smith apples, peeled, cored and finely grated
  • 3/4 cup chopped walnuts or pecans

Directions
  1. Sift together the flour, baking powder, salt, cinnamon and grated nutmeg
  2. Cream the butter
  3. Gradually add the sugar until mixture is light and fluffy
  4. Beat in eggs, one at a time
  5. Alternately ad the flour mixture and apples to creamed mixture
  6. Stir in nuts
  7. Pour into well greased 9 inch loaf pan
  8. Bake at 350F for 50-60 minutes or until bread is nicely browned and springs back when lightly pressed in the center
  9. Cool for 10-15 minutes in the pan before removing
  10. Cool completely before slicing

Sounds like a wonderfully moist bread! - I notice it's similar to its proportions in ingredients to banana bread? Is it as moist?


Made this on an 84 degree day but it was worth it. Very nice texture and delicious.

Alterations


Not suggesting recipe be changed but I used 4 smaller apples, not 2 Granny Smiths, which equalled a full 2 cups. Also as the apples were sweeter than Granny Smiths, did cut sugar to 1 cup.
