Ingredients
  • 1 quart water
  • 2 medium onions- finely chopped
  • 2 cans (8 oz each) tomato sauce
  • 5 whole allspice
  • 1 1/2 tsp red pepper
  • 1 tsp ground cumin seed
  • 4 tablespoons chili powder
  • 1/2 oz unsweetened chocolate
  • 2 pounds ground beef
  • 4 garlic cloves-finely chopped
  • 2 TBL vinegar
  • 1 large whole bay leaf
  • 5 whole cloves
  • 2 tsp Worchestershire sauce
  • 1 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1 tsp cinnamon

Directions
  1. Add ground beef to water in a four quart pot.
  2. Stir until beef separates to a fine texture
  3. Boil slowly for 30 minutes
  4. Add all the other ingredients
  5. Stir to blend.
  6. Bring to a boil
  7. Reduce heat and simmer uncovered for about 3 hours
  8. Pot may be covered the last hour after desired consistency is reached
  9. Though the chili can be served immediately, storing in the fridge over night enhances the flavors and enables the fat to be lifted from the top before reheating.
  10. Serve over thin spaghetti.
  11. Top with any or all of the following according to your likes: shredded cheddar cheese, onions, oyster crackers, beans

I'll definitely have to try this! Right now, I order the Skyline Chili seasoning packets over the internet because I don't have an authentic recipe. Thanks!

Love this. Not quite spicy enough for me-but I do the cinnamon and chocolate. Nice recipe. Thanks.

I got one just like this posted but there are a few things different. I've tried it with the chocolate and I like it without it.
But there is NOTHING like Cincinnati Chili. I have family from out of town that stop at GoldStar or Skyline as soon as they get here, even before seeing us. I also have to make a big pot of mine cincinnati chili for them to take home. I've given the recipe but they say it doesn't taste the same unless it's made here. I think their just lazy and don't want to make it theirselves.LOL!!
