- 1-2 lbs lamb for stock shopping list
- 1 oz carrots, diced shopping list
- 8 oz turnips, diced shopping list
- 2 onions, diced shopping list
- 1 stick celery, diced shopping list
- white of 1 leek, sliced shopping list
- 3-4oz pearl barley shopping list
- 4 oz dried peas, soaked for 4-5 hours shopping list
- salt and pepper shopping list
- kale or other bitter winter greens, chopped (optional) shopping list

How to make it
- Make stock from lamb
- when done [ull meat from bones
- Add all the ingredients to the stock.
- Simmer gently for a couple of hours, making sure that the peas become mushy and the barley expands and becomes soft and white.
- If you wish, add a few ounces of kale 10 minutes before the end of the cooking time.
- Check the seasoning and serve
