How to make it

  • Beat butter until soft; beat in 2 tablespoons sugar; add egg yolks.
  • Stir in flour.
  • Shape into smooth ball and press onto bottom and sides of 9 inch tart or springform pan.
  • Melt Chocolate in saucepan over low heat; cool.
  • Toast slivered almonds, then chop.
  • Beat egg whites until foamy throughout.
  • Gradually beat in 3/4 cup sugar and continue beating until stiff peaks will form, about 10 minutes.
  • Blend in chocolate and vanilla.
  • Add almonds and dates; spread evenly in crust.
  • Bake at 350 degrees for 30 to 35 minutes or until crust is golden; cool.
  • Remove outer ring.
  • Garnish with whipped topping, almonds and chocolate curls.
