How to make it

  • Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
  • Cream shortning butter and sugar, then add egg and molasses. Mix well.
  • Sift dry ingredients and stir into batter.
  • Shape into small balls and roll in sugar.
  • Place on greased or parchment papered cookie sheet.
  • Bake 10-12 minutes, being careful no to overbake. Cookies are done when soft, puffy, and crackled looking.
  • Cool on rack (but you gotta try at least one fresh out of the oven!).
