How to make it

  • In a pan, mix sugar, butter and cream together
  • Cook until really brown
  • Mix milk, eggs and flour together
  • Pour into first mixture and cook until thick
  • Add vanilla flavoring
  • Pour into a *baked* pie crust
  • May top with meringue OR
  • May top with lightly sweetened whipped cream
  • MERINGUE
  • In large bowl, add 4 egg whites, pinch of cream of tartar
  • Beat with an electric mixer until foamy
  • While beating on high, add sugar, 1 tablespoon at a time
  • Beat until satiny and standing in high stiff peaks
  • Mound on filling
  • Bake at 350 degrees until lightly browned
