The first time I made Paula Deen's Tuna Burgers my husband said it didn't have enough onion for him...Well he got what he asked for the next time I made them. The salsa can also be used to top tuna steaks.

  • Tuna Burgers
  • 2 (6-ounce) cans solid white tuna, drained
  • 1/2 cup breadcrumbs
  • 2 large eggs, lightly beaten
  • 1/2 cup finely chopped onion
  • 1/2 cup finely chopped celery
  • 1 tablespoon chopped pimento, optional
  • 1 tablespoon fresh lemon juice
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons prepared horseradish
  • 1 clove garlic, minced
  • 1/4 teaspoon pepper
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • Asian Style Onion Salsa
  • 1 tbls. sesame seeds
  • 2 tbls lime juice, fresh
  • 1 tbls. sesame oil
  • 1 tbls. soy sauce
  • 1 tsp. sugar
  • 1/8 tsp. crushed red pepper flakes
  • 1 cup sweet onion, finely chopped
  • 1/4 cup green onions, thinly sliced
  • 2 tbls. red bell pepper, finely chopped
  • Salt and pepper

Directions
  1. Tuna burgers
  2. Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F.
  3. In a large bowl, combine the tuna, bread crumbs, and egg, and stir lightly. Add the onion, celery, pimento (if using), lemon juice, horseradish, garlic, and pepper, and mix again. Form the mixture into 4 patties. Heat the oil in a nonstick skillet over medium heat and cook the patties, covered, until golden brown. Carefully flip the patties and cook the other side for 5 minutes. Finish baking in the oven until golden brown.
  4. Salsa
  5. Toast sesame seeds in skillet over medium low heat until golden brown
  6. Cool
  7. Add lime juice, sesame oil, soy sauce, sugar, red pepper flakes in a mixing bowl
  8. Add onion, green onion, red pepper, and sesame seeds and salt and pepper
  9. Toss to coat
