Ingredients
  • 3 Package Dry Yeast
  • 1/2 Cup Warm Water
  • 5 Cups unsifted self-rising flour
  • 1/2 Cup Sugar
  • 1 teaspoon Soda
  • 1 Cup Shortening
  • 2 Cups Buttermilk

Directions
  1. Dissolve yeast in warm water
  2. Mix flour,sugar and soda
  3. Cut in shortening
  4. Over low heat,heat buttermilk to lukewarm
  5. Add to flour mixture along with the yeast
  6. Mix well
  7. Cover and refrigerate over night
  8. Turn out on well floured surface, work in additional flour if dough is too sticky to handle.
  9. Pat or Roll out
  10. Cut with biscuit cutter
  11. Place on greased baking sheet and let rise
  12. Bake in 400 degree oven
  13. 10 to 12 minutes
  14. Makes 3 to 4 Dozen Rolls
  15. Note:
  16. Mixture may be refrigerated several days.
  17. If desired,rolls may be baked without allowing to rise.
  18. They may also be cut out and frozen.
  19. When ready to use,place frozen rolls on greased baking sheet and let rise.Bake according to recipe
  20. Frozen Rolls should be used within 2 weeks

Sounds great for holiday dinners! Make a few days ahead, and then on the big day they'll be just as easy and a lot better tasting than those thaw and rise bags of frozen rolls I wind up using for lack of time and energy!
