Just call it a "Chimi", grab a cold beer, and enjoy!!! Recipe from Gourmet in Sept. 2007.

Ingredients
  • 1 1/4 lbs ground beef chuck
  • 1 medium onion, finely chopped
  • 1/2 of a large red bell pepper, diced
  • 2 garlic cloves, minced
  • 1/3 cup chopped cilantro
  • 1 tsp dried oregano
  • 2 tsp soy sauce
  • 1 T Worcestershire sauce
  • salt and pepper
  • 4 good quality hamburger buns, split
  • 2 cups thinly sliced cabbage
  • 1 carrot, coarsely grated
  • 1 small red onion, cut into rings
  • 1 tomato, sliced 1/4 inch thick
  • 2 T ketchup
  • 2 T mayonnaise
  • 1 T yellow prepared mustard

Directions
  1. Mix together beef, onion, bell pepper, garlic, cilantro, oregano, soy sauce, Worcestershire sauce, a pinch of salt and pepper.
  2. Form into 4 patties.
  3. Heat a large griddle or 12-inch heavy skillet over medium heat until hot, then lightly toast buns.
  4. Oil griddle or pan, then cook patties, turning once, about 8 minutes total for medium rare.
  5. Transfer to buns.
  6. Mix together cabbage, carrot, and a pinch of salt. Then cook on same griddle turning occasionally, until slightly wilted, about 2 minutes. Divide among burgers.
  7. Oil griddle again, then sear onion and tomato, turning once, until slightly charred, about 2 minutes total. Divide among burgers.
  8. Stir together ketchup, mayo and mustard, then top burgers with sauce.

This caught my attention... I'm liking the idea of the grilled cabbage & carrot....not to mention, mixing the condiments together to make one simple sauce...
