Strawberry Cookies

Ok, this is a secret recipe I was told but they're great. It's kinda like the strawberry cake we've all made and loved except in cookie form. These do not brown in the oven so don't try to leave them there until you do or you'll have a mess.
Ingredients
- For the cookies: shopping list
- 1/4 cup shortening shopping list
- 1/4 cup cream cheese shopping list
- 1/2 cup butter (lightly salted) softened shopping list
- 1 1/4 cups powdered sugar shopping list
- 2 1/4 cups all purpose flour shopping list
- 3 tablespoons mashed strawberries shopping list
- 1 teaspoon vanilla flavoring shopping list
- 1 teaspoon almond extract shopping list
- For the icing: shopping list
- 1/4 cup softened butter. shopping list
- 2 1/2 cups powdered sugar shopping list
- 1/2 teaspoon strawberry flavoring shopping list
- 2 tablespoons mashed strawberries shopping list
How to make it
- For the cookies:
- Cream shortening, cream cheese and butter until fluffy.
- Add powdered sugar, mix well.
- Stir in flour
- Add flavorings and strawberries.
- Shape dough into 1 1/2 inch balls.
- Place on ungreased cookie sheet.
- Press lightly to flatten to about 1/4 inch (or form into heart/strawberry shapes).
- Bake at 325 degrees for 12 to 15 mins.
- Cookies will not brown.
- For the icing:
- Combine all ingredients with a mixer.
- Spread on cookies as soon as they are removed from oven.
- After cookies cool slightly on baking sheet, place them on cake rack to cool completely.
