How to make it

  • Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
  • Grease 15 1/2 x 10 1/2 x 1 inch baking pan.
  • Combine flour, cocoa, baking powder and baking soda; set aside.
  • In large bowl beat sugar, butter, eggs and almond extract until creamy.
  • Gradually beat in flour mixture.
  • Stir in almonds.
  • Divide dough in half.
  • Shape into 2 long logs, about 12 inches each .
  • Flatten slightly to make bottom flat, but keep top rounded (you want a crescent shape).
  • Place on prepared pan.
  • Bake 25 minutes.
  • Cool in pan on wire rack for 5 minutes.
  • Cut into 1/2 inch diagonal slices; return slices to pan.
  • Bake 20 minutes more, until very crisp.
  • Cool completely.
  • Makes 4 dozen.
