These bars are delicious! The meringue topping pushes them over the top. Recipe came from the back of a 5 pound bag of Imperial granulated sugar 40 years ago.

My mother used to make these when I was a child, they are awesome! I changed the recipe and used 1/2 c. butter, 1/2 c. shortening and only used 3/4 c. brown sugar in the meringue. My oven runs hot, so I baked at 330 degrees for 20-22 minutes...perfect!
