- 2 pounds sweet chestnuts shopping list
- 1 1/2 pounds sugar shopping list
- 3 teaspoons vanilla essence shopping list
- 1/2 pint water shopping list
How to make it
- Prepare the chestnuts by cutting a small cross on both sides, as this means easy peeling later.
- Boil for half an hour.
- Peel and skin the chestnuts.
- Put the nuts through a sieve or a mouli.
- Make a syrup by cooking the sugar in the water, adding the vanilla essence.
- When it thickens, add the crushed chestnuts and cook gently until thick.
- Put in hot, clean jars, and cover immediately.
