Olives Molasses Cookies

- 1 Cup shortening shopping list
- 1 Cup molasses shopping list
- 1 Cup brown sugar, Packed shopping list
- 1 egg, well beaten shopping list
- 4 Cups flour shopping list
- 1 Tsp salt shopping list
- 1 Tsp baking soda shopping list
- 2 Tsp ginger shopping list
- 1 Tsp cinnamon shopping list
- 1/2 Tsp nutmeg shopping list
- 1/2 Tsp cloves shopping list
How to make it
- Combine shortening (the original recipe calls for SPRY)
- molasses , and Brown sugar in a saucepan.
- Bring to a boil over low heat and boil for two minutes.
- Remove from heat (fire) and cool to lukewarm.
- Add beaten egg and mix thoroughly.
- Sift together flour, salt soda and spices.
- Add to molasses mixture and blend well
- Pack tightly in an 8 x 8 greased pan and chill for several hours (if you are going to roll them out and cut them)
- If you want, you may roll the dough into cookie dough logs to be cut later into small round discs.
- Chill all for several hours and then either roll and cut the cookies out, or cut cookie discs from the dough logs.
- Sprinkle with sugar or sugar crystals and bake on greased cokie sheets for 10-15 minutes in a 350 degree oven.
