Indonesian Crispy Crunchy Beef Recipe

Ingredients
  • 2 pounds boneless chuck
  • 2 cups water
  • 7 tablespoons peanut oil
  • 1 cup thinly sliced white onions
  • 10 cloves garlic peeled and sliced thin
  • 3 tablespoons red hot chili paste
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup cubed ripe tomatoes

Directions
  1. Place beef in water in a 4-quart pot then bring to a boil.
  2. Reduce heat to low and simmer 20 minutes.
  3. Discard water and cool beef until it can be handled.
  4. Slice beef as thin as possible then cut into 2-inch squares.
  5. Let drain in a colander for about 10 minutes before drying with paper towels.
  6. Heat 4 tablespoons oil in a large skillet over medium high heat.
  7. Add beef slices and fry for 5 minutes.
  8. Remove and set aside.
  9. Heat remaining oil in same skillet.
  10. Fry onions and garlic for 3 minutes.
  11. Add chili paste, salt and tomatoes then cook for 5 minutes longer.
  12. Add beef and stir fry for 5 minutes to coat slices and distribute flavors.
  13. Serve immediately with rice.
