A basic homemeade brownie mix one can alter to their liking when making brownies. Also makes a great jar gift!!!

Ingredients
  • 6 cups flour
  • 4 tsp baking powder
  • 4 tsp salt
  • 8 cups sugar
  • 1 can , 8 oz baking cocoa
  • 2 cups vegetable shortening ( i.e Crisco )
  • Brownies from Mix:
  • 2 1/2 cup mix
  • 2 eggs, fork beaten
  • 1 to 2 tsp vanilla
  • 1/2 cup choppped nuts or chocolate chips ( optional )

Directions
  1. In a large bowl, combine the first 5 ingredients.
  2. With pastry blender cut in shortening to coarse crumbs
  3. Store mixture air tght in cool place in cupboard or chill.
  4. YIeld 17 cups of mix
  5. to make brownies:
  6. Combine all ingrdients for brownies and blend smooth.
  7. Spread into an 8 inch square pan.
  8. Bake in a preheated 350F oven about 20 to 25 minutes or tested done for brownies ( sides pull away from pan and center almost is set )
  9. Cool completely, cover and chill
  10. Cut into squares
