CHEROKEE CORN PONES Recipe
A fried corn bread. Very tasty with honey drizzle over them.

Ingredients
  • 2 c. Cornmeal
  • 1/4 t. Baking soda
  • 1 t . Salt
  • 1/2 c Shortening
  • 3/4 c Buttermilk
  • 3/4 c Milk
  • Butter
  • Honey

Directions
  1. Combine cornmeal, baking soda, and salt; cut in shortening until mixture resembles coarse meal.
  2. Add buttermilk and milk, stirring just until dry ingredients are moistened.
  3. Form batter into eight 1/2 inch thick cakes.
  4. Place on a hot greased griddle.
  5. Bake at 400 degrees for 15 minutes.
  6. Turn and bake an additional 15 minutes.
  7. Serve hot with butter and honey.
