When dad was stationed in Germany, the family he was guarding would feed him periodically. This was one of his favorites from the Barnikel's. Their eldest daughter sent this to my mom several years later.

Ingredients
  • This is how it was sent to us:
  • 850 gr saurkraut (about 4 cups)
  • 60 gr butter (1/4 cup)
  • 5 gr sugar (1 tsp)
  • 1 crude potato (raw)
  • salt

Directions
  1. At first you have to loosen the saurkerut. Then you put the saurkraut in more than a pint of boiling water. Don't forget to flavor it and put some fat in. (sugar, butter, salt) Then close pot and stew it.
  2. After that, you have to rub the crude potato in. (grate raw potato).
  3. Now the saurkraut must cook about 20 minutes.
  4. Good Appetite!
