Better Than That Store Bought Baking Mix Recipe

Better Than That Store Bought Baking Mix Recipe
When I was a kid I have fond memories of the big yellow box. Now I can't stand the chemical taste. I keep this in my pantry at all times. This recipe makes about 12 cups of baking mix that can be used the same as the name brand baking mix.

Ingredients
  • 1/2 C baking powder
  • 1/4 C sugar
  • 9 C flour
  • 1 1/4 C shortening

Directions
  1. Sift together powder and sugar into flour.
  2. Sift together twice into large mixing bowl.
  3. Add the shortening, cutting in with pastry blender, until mix is consistency of corn meal.
  4. You can also do this in your food processor or in the kitchen-aid with the whip attachment.
  5. Store in tightly covered container at room temperature.
  6. In the warmer months I stash mine in the fridge.
